Looking to 2016: Armor Trend

Tactical and industrial, our Armor trend is a nod to soldiers of ancient and modern day, of fictional knights, and post-apocalyptic heroines. It is all about metal, leather, and new-age textiles made to be strong yet flexible. The color story is bold and dark, spanning from the deepest blacks to the creamiest oxblood red, with accents of sand and stone grey. Metallic finishes run the gamut from aged industrial steel to high gloss chrome.

Dresses and tops can be seen with metallic and crystal detail mimicking chest plates, while boots are chunky and highly adorned with sparkle and spikes. Harsh linear elements of leather and geometric cut-outs of new age fabrics add drama to clothing and accessories. Jewelry is bold; necklaces are layered with a mix of metal finishes, crystals, and pearls, and arm cuffs mimic those of ancient Rome.

Interiors are industrial and metal, leather, and suede play a big role. Furniture uses elements from the past that have been re-imagines into a new piece. Gears of unfinished steel and accents of rusty skeleton keys can be paired with refined matte gold and high gloss chrome accents. Textiles are deep, rich leathers and woven suedes in dark neutrals.

The mix of metallic finishes carry over into the holiday season. Dark gun metal blacks can be accented with clear crystals, and deep pewters and antique bronzes look fresh when paired on the same Christmas tree.

Looking to 2016: Galaxy Trend

It is both futuristic and whimsical, both angular and soft. The Galaxy trend mixes bubble gum pastels with hard geometry, which can be seen in surface design, jewelry, and furniture. Plastic and translucent fabrics can be seen, and the repetition of triangles gives this trend a bit of mystery. The color story is naturally inspired by the ultraviolet images of the heavens, while also referencing highly manufactured pigments and textures.

Mirrored sunglasses and moonstone necklaces set the tone. Dresses appear in bubblegum colors with symmetrical geometric patterns, or plain with one highly detailed image showcased in the center. Crystals and jewelry take on a holographic affect and mimic the aurora borealis skies. High shine plastic-like materials are paired with leathers and cottons.

Home décor takes on a geometric candy wonderland, light in color, but angular in shape. Natural geodes and stalactite crystals are set in boxy metal frames in lighting fixtures and side tables. The triangle pattern can be seen in carpets, upholstery, and playful wall hangings. Geometric facets are on display in both crystal curtain rods and terracotta hanging planters.

Light colored metallic finishes carry over into the holiday season. Matte silver and rose gold pair nicely with pastel colored epoxies and glitter. Bubble gum pink and muted sea green accents are a futuristic and whimsical take on the classic red and green.
