Rhode Island Themed Christmas Tree

"Welcome to Rhode Island!" says the biggest tree here at Gloria Duchin Inc. We've paid homage to our favorite parts of Rhode Island in this special, reminiscent Christmas tree. The infamous Dunkin Donut Munchkins, Monroe Dairy Cow mascot, and traditional icons of Newport, just to name a few, are all featured on this one-of-a-kind themed tree. Silvers and blues create the "Ocean State" feel through flowing ribbon, glass bulbs, and other Gloria Duchin ornaments. Earth Trend Christmas Tree

With inspiration from Moroccan style fabrics and patterns, bright fuchsias and turquoise blues, our Earth Trend themed Christmas tree most definitely stands out in our office. After creating a three page spread in our 2014 Trend Intelligence book based on this theme, we've added it to the set of trend inspired Christmas trees in our office. Sparkly beaded stems join bright and bold feathers at the top of the tree, while pink and orange chiffon ribbon flows through the branches. Glass bulbs of the same rich hues stand out with their turquoise and red beads. Gloria Duchin Inc.'s fleur de lis, peace sign, and the flirty "kiss" lips, are hung on by orange and yellow ribbon and adorned with bright pink and gold glitter along with many other of our bright, fun ornaments.

With the holiday’s right around the corner, it’s time for some winter fun! Gather up family & friends for some classic holiday activities! Whether you’re bundled up playing outside in the snow or sitting beside a warm fire, there is always plenty to do when winter comes around.

A Cookie Swap is a great activity for everyone in the family to participate in, even aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents! Have everybody bake their own type of cookie, all different kinds, then get together and swap away! Another version of this is the Yankee Swap, where everybody would buy a “gender specified” or neutral gift and swap amongst each other… before unwrapping of course!

Go ice skating with your friends, build a big snowman, or take pictures with Santa! Start a tradition with your family or even friends and keep it for generations to come!

Wood Trend Christmas Tree

You don't have to go deep into the woods to find our Wood themed Christmas tree! Right in our office stands a tree full of concepts pulled from our Wood Trend, earlier featured in our 2014 trend intelligence book. Being the most natural of our trends, we featured the elements of nature by bringing together burlap garland, red berries, and pinecones. Adding ornate glass ornaments of greens, reds, and woodsy oranges tops it all off. Tied onto the evergreen branches with green and red chiffon ribbon are our own special ornaments; reindeer, winter scenes, and owls, among others.

A Warm & Cozy

Autumn Breakfast  

Cranberry Pumpkin Muffins (Makes 24)

2 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups white sugar
1 cup solid pack pumpkin
1/2 cup corn oil
2 tbsp. orange zest
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups cranberries, halved 

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 24 muffin cups with paper liners.
2. Beat eggs, sugar, pumpkin, corn oil, and orange zest in a small mixing bowl until smooth.
3. Mix flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl with a fork. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour pumpkin mixture into the well; stir until the dry mixture is just moistened into a batter. Fold cranberries into the batter.
4. Scoop batter into prepared muffin cups.
5. Bake in the preheated oven until golden and the tops spring back when lightly pressed, 20 to 25 minutes.

 Pumpkin Spiced Latte (Makes 3 Servings)

 3 cups hot whole milk
4 tsp. white sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
6 oz. double-strength brewed coffee
3 tbsp. sweetened whipped cream
3 pinches pumpkin pie spice (garnish)



Combine the hot milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and pumpkin pie spice in a blender; blend until frothy. Pour the mixture into 3 coffee mugs to about 2/3 full. Pour 2 ounces coffee into each mug. Garnish each mug with whipped topping and pumpkin pie spice.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

 

Whether you are a patient, family member, friend, or just would like to support the cause, becoming informed about breast cancer is very important. Maybe you are only familiar with the name of the cause but unsure of the specifications of the illness, or what exactly you can do to help. Getting informed is the first step to joining the effort. Here in Rhode Island, we celebrate the life of Gloria Gemma, a mother, wife, daughter and friend who lost her brave fight against breast cancer. 2004 brought the creation of The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, a program which has developed and implemented programs and services for those fighting breast cancer today. So now the question is, what can I do to get involved? All around the United States, marathons, walks, and fundraising events are held throughout the year but especially in October. You can volunteer at these events or jump right in and participate yourself! The Gloria Gemma 5K, held at the Flames of Hope Weekend, October 11-13th, is a 3.1 mile course that whips through historic Providence, Rhode Island. Breast Cancer walks and other related events are held right in your community through, for example, Making Strides on October 6th and Relay For Life, through the American Cancer Society. Whether you donate, volunteer, or participate, you are making a difference!

2014 Air Trend

In looking to 2014 for trends, we sought inspiration from the very basic elements that make up our surroundings: Air, Metal, Earth, Wood, and Water. Though each element is organic and found in nature, each trend has a very specific mood and feel that sets it apart from the rest. We have explored each in the context of fashion, home decor, and how that trend relates to our own line of ornaments. A light and airy feel is what comes to mind with just a glance at this trend. With pastel blues and pinks, smooth textures, and creamy whites, this Air trend has it all!
