2015 Trends: Punk

Each year, the team at Gloria Duchin compiles a Trend Intelligence guide based on color stories, textures, materials, and moods that we see as being popular in fashion and home decor. These trend often trickle down into holiday decor, and we use them as a guideline in creating new product.

Our last trend is Punk. We hope you have enjoyed our trend recap, and it has left you inspired with new color and motif ideas for your holiday decorating.

Edgy and disobedient, punk is tattered and messy, shouting loud enough that it can’t be ignored. Marked by deep, dark colors: blood red, black, grey and electric blue; it comes across as heavy guitar and fast-beating drums for the eyes. Plaid jackets are worn over rough-edged black lace jackets, and leather is draped from head to toe. Rugged boots with studs are paired with cropped motorcycle jackets and form-fitting pants. Studs and zippers are a necessity and golden skulls make for good accessories.

For the home, furnishings and accessories are equally loud. Union Jack flags grace carpets and pillows, while skulls make for great wall art. A graffiti chaise is matched up with a blood red ottoman. The studs and spikes found in fashion are reimagined as a golden spikey light fixture. Kitchen accessories and home accents give a nod to some of the tough icons of this trend; skulls, guns, and tattoos.

For holidays and jewelry, blacks and reds take center stage. Icons focus on guitars, skulls, and motorcycles. Look for finishes in gunmetal and pewter.
